SMA Solar Technology AG – Press Release Visitors to Intersolar Europe 2014 Show Great Interest in Innovative Solutions From SMA Niestetal/Munich, June 12, 2014—Intersolar Europe 2014, Europe’s largest solar trade show, was a big success for SMA Solar Technology AG (SMA). At its 800-square-meter booth, SMA showed numerous visitors innovative solutions for greater energy independence, with a focus on the integration of batteries into the overall system. Visitors were not the only ones impressed by SMA’s innovative strength. An expert jury chose the SMA Fuel Save Controller, which integrates high shares of solar power into diesel systems, as winner of the Intersolar AWARD in the Photovoltaics category. This is the fourth time that SMA has received the Intersolar AWARD. “At Intersolar Europe 2014, SMA once again demonstrated its technological leadership,” said Roland Grebe, SMA Board Member for Technical Innovations. “Our innovative solutions make an independent, economical and decentralized energy supply available worldwide—from the SMA Smart Home, which efficiently boosts self-consumption of solar electricity in households and businesses, to the SMA Fuel Save Controller that won the Intersolar AWARD to the integrated, compact SMA Utility Power System for large-scale PV plants.” More self-consumption with the SMA Smart Home Presentation of the SMA Smart Home once again drew crowds at this year’s Intersolar Europe. In addition to the SMA Flexible Storage System and SMA Integrated Storage System, the focus was on integration of e-mobility and heat pumps. It is precisely this connection of intelligent energy management with SMA Smart Home and optimal charging infrastructure that creates interesting possibilities for private households and businesses that want to significantly boost self-consumption and reduce their energy costs. High-performance inverters for private households and businesses Along the same lines, SMA exhibited new inverters for small- to medium-sized PV systems. In addition to expanded power classes for the Sunny Boy TL and the smaller Sunny Tripower-Generation, SMA offers the more powerful Sunny Tripower with 20 and 25 kW. As part of its recent strategic partnership with Danfoss, SMA also presented the Sunny Tripower 60000TL, developed by Danfoss, which is likewise perfectly tailored to the requirements of commercial self-consumption. Award-winning solution for photovoltaic diesel hybrid systems SMA also showcased the perfect solution for industrial applications with or without limited access to the utility grid—photovoltaic diesel hybrid systems with the SMA Fuel Save Solution. Specifically developed for integration of high solar power shares of up to 60% of installed diesel genset capacity, this modular system solution considerably reduces operating costs as well as CO2 emissions. An integral component is the SMA Fuel Save Controller, which received the Intersolar AWARD as best product in the Photovoltaics category. Complete solution for large-scale PV power plants A highlight in the large-scale PV power plant segment was the unveiling of the SMA Utility Power System. Visitors to the SMA booth got their first look at this complete DC-to-AC system, which meets all the requirements of today’s and future large-scale PV power plants. The optimized system includes the new Sunny Central inverter with 2200 kVA and 2500 kVA, a compatible medium-voltage block complete with switchgear and the Power Plant Controller and DC monitoring. Suitable for nearly every type of PV module now used in utility-scale plants, it is designed for outdoor use in all regions of the world. Megawatt-class battery inverter In the megawatt class, SMA introduced a new battery inverter. Integration of large storage systems into PV power plants optimizes grid operation and supports further development of renewable energies. In combination with the Sunny Central Storage, it is possible to provide the full range of system services necessary for secure grid operation, from frequency control and voltage maintenance to supply restoration and grid congestion management. Must-run units can be replaced. Operating and maintenance costs as well as short-term investments in grid expansion can be reduced and avoided.
