SMA Solar Technology AG — Press Release SMA Solar Technology AG is the First Inverter Supplier to Receive Authorization for Net Metering in Chile Santiago de Chile, November 26, 2014 — With their comprehensive technical functions, two SMA inverter types now have received the authorization of the “Superintendencia de Electricidad y Combustibles” (SEC) to participate according to law 20.571 in Net Metering. The SMA Sunny Boy TL and the SMA Sunny Tripower TL are the first inverters to meet the net metering requirements for inverters in PV installations with up to 100 kWp capacity. With these products, SMA is able to offer clients in Chile a comprehensive portfolio from 1 to 25 kW per inverter. “We are happy that our inverters are the first inverters in the market to receive the authorization,” says Daniel Rosende, SMA General Manager South America. “SMA has a high experience in countries all over the world and our products offer the most advanced technology and highest quality in the market.” The Chilean government has published a net metering program last month, which guarantees payment at fixed tariffs for the injection of surplus electricity produced in residential and commercial PV installations. All PV installations which want to participate in this program need the authorization of the SEC. SMA Solar Technology AG has opened its Chilean subsidiary in 2012 and is offering photovoltaic inverters and system technology for all photovoltaic installations; in the residential area as well as for off-grid installations, solar diesel hybrid systems, and for large-scale solar power plants. The product portfolio is supplemented by comprehensive services and operational management of utility-scale PV-plants provided by the local SMA service company. For the residential market SMA is operating a wide service stock to offer high quality locally based support to the end costumer. This provides unique investment safety for PV installations. SMA is currently supplying over 160 Sunny Central CP-XT central inverters to some of the main projects to be executed in Chile. Apart from that various photovoltaic projects are already implemented with SMA products and system solutions in the country and in South America.
