SMA Solar Technology AG—Press Release Power Company Colbún Relies on SMA Medium Voltage Power Station for Its First PV Project Santiago de Chile, November 1, 2018 – SMA Solar Technology AG (SMA) has delivered 4 Medium Voltage Power Station 2500 (MVPS) into a 9 megawatt PV Power Plant located in the metropolitan region of Santiago. The Ovejeria PV plant in the Tiltil municipality is the first solar project built by the Chilean power company Colbún S.A. The PV power plant went successfully into operation in May 2018 and is supposed to offset about 11,000 tons of CO², which is the equivalent of what is produced from 2,750 cars. “We are very proud that Colbún has chosen our Medium Voltage Power Station to build its first PV power plant because we are convinced that it perfectly fits the needs of the Ovejeria PV project,” said Daniel Rosende, Managing Director of SMA South America SpA. “Our MVPS 2500 is a turnkey container solution with a Sunny Central 2500-EV central inverters and a coordinated medium-voltage solution comprising transformer and switchgear. It is designed for centrally located PV power plants with DC voltages of 1,500 V where it significantly reduces transportation, installation and operating costs thanks to its unique power density and compact design.” “The Ovejeria solar farm is part of a renewable energy project portfolio that Colbún will develop based on market conditions and the needs of its customers,” said Thomas Keller, general manager of Colbún S.A. SMA has installed more than one gigawatt of inverter power in Latin America to date. Key factors for this success are several large-scale PV projects equipped with SMA inverters and Medium Voltage Power Stations in Chile and throughout the region. In addition, there are numerous commercial and industrial off-grid and PV hybrid systems installed in several countries across the entire Latin American region.
